主题：每日笔译[我的水滴石穿]

决定认真学习英语，人又颇懒，只好以这个方法强制自己学习，记得有人说“译对了就真的读懂了”，也许这也不失为一种学习方法，呵呵。

每天译一两段，不求译笔优美，但求基本达意。欢迎朋友们批评指正。

8月31日：(开始译《假如给我三天光明》)

Three Days to See 假如给我三天光明

All of　us have read thrilling stories in which the hero had only a limited and specified time to live. Sometimes it was as long as a year; sometimes as short as twenty-four hours. But always we were interested in discovering just how the doomed man chose to spend his last days or his last hours. I speak, of course, of free men who have a choice, not condemned criminals whose sphere of activities is strictly delimited.

我们都曾被这样的故事所震动：故事中，英雄的生命只剩一段有限的时间，有时长达一年，有时短至一天。我们总想知道，这个将要死去的人会怎么度过他生命中最后的时光。当然，这里我指的是自由的人，而不是被判决后的囚犯，前者有自由安排自己的生活，而后者只有有限的活动空间。

Such stories set us thinking, wondering what we should do under similar circumstances. What events, what experiences, what associations should we crowd into those last hours as mortal beings? What happiness should we find in reviewing the past, what regrets?

这样的故事常让我们深思，如果是我们自己，在那样的情境下又会如何选择。我们会用怎么样的事件，经历和交往去充实生命中最后的光阴？在回首往事时，我们又会感到怎样的欢乐和悔恨？

Sometimes I have thought it would be an excellent rule to live each day as if we should die tomorrow. Such an attitude would emphasize sharply the values of life. We should live each day with a gentleness, a vigor, and a keenness of appreciation which are often lost when time stretches before us in the constant panorama of more days and months and years to come. There are those, of course, who would adopt the Epicurean motto of "Eat, drink, and be merry," but most people would be chastened by the certainty of impending death.

有时我想，我们可以每天都用好像自己第二天就将死去那样的态度对待生活，这将是一种很好的生活态度，因为这种态度强烈地突出了生命的价值。我们应该让亲切、活力、以及敏锐的欣赏能力伴随我们的每一天。当时间在我们身前一年年、一月月、一天天地延展成一幅似乎没有尽头的图景时，我们常常在生活中将这些东西遗失。当然，世上总会有人坚定地信奉享乐主义的格言：“吃、喝，之后结婚”，但大多数人在死亡滨临时会觉醒。

8月31日：翻译笔记：

sphere：n.球体，领域，空间。

crowd可作vt.用法为：1、sth. crowd some sw. 2、sb. crowd sth. sw.

Epicurean adj.伊壁鸠鲁的, 贪口福的, 享乐主义的

手记：第一次译东西，发现真辛苦。英语里面常常一个词后有长长的定语从句，翻译成中文变成一个没有逗号的长长的句子，读起来会把人噎死。如何把这样的句子不留痕迹地变成几个中文句子译出来看来是一个很大的问题。第三段：Sometimes I have thought it would be an excellent rule to live each day as if we should die tomorrow. 该怎么译好？有朋友愿意帮帮忙吗？

我尽量找一些比较好的文章译，这样不想看英语的朋友也可以看看中文部分，就是连载的速度慢了点，呵呵，但相信我会坚持下去的。朋友们有空帮我看看哦~，欢迎找多找错误提意见，大家共同进步嘛。

In stories the doomed hero is usually saved at the last minute by some stroke of fortune, but almost always his sense of values is changed. he becomes more appreciative of the meaning of life and its permanent spiritual values. It has often been noted that those who live, or have lived, in the shadow of death bring a mellow sweetness to everything they do. 在故事中，原本注定死去的英雄常在最后一刻撞上好运，于是他得救了，而且从此他的价值观得以改变。劫后余生的他比以前更能体味生命的意义，以及它永久的精神价值。我们常能看到这样的例子，一些人正生或曾经活在死亡的阴影下，也正是这些人，可以在每一件小事中体味到生活的甘醇。

Most of us, however, take life for granted. We know that one day we must die, but usually we picture that day as far in the future. When we are in buoyant health, death is all but unimaginable. We seldom think of it. The days stretch out in an endless vista. So we go about our petty tasks, hardly aware of our listless attitude toward life. 但是，大多数人却把生命的存在视作理所当然。我们都知道人终有一死，但在对人生的懂憬中，我们常把这一天描绘在尽可能远的将来。在我们健康时，觉得死亡几乎是不可想象的，即便偶尔想起，也觉得死亡的日子正在自己无边的视野中不断远离。于是我们在琐事中生活，全然不觉自己冷淡的生活态度。

The same lethargy, I am afraid, characterizes the use of all our faculties and senses. Only the deaf appreciate hearing, only the blind realize the manifold blessings that lie in sight. Particularly does this observation apply to those who have lost sight and hearing in adult life. But those who have never suffered impairment of sight or hearing seldom make the fullest use of these blessed faculties. Their eyes and ears take in all sights and sounds hazily, without concentration and with little appreciation. It is the same old story of not being grateful for what we have until we lose it, of not being conscious of health until we are ill. 同样地，我觉得恐怕用“麻木”一词便可概括我们感官的作用：只有聋人才知道听力的可贵，只有盲人才明白，双眼竟是天赐的福祉。对于成年后才失去双耳或双眼的人来说，情况更是如此。可是，那些耳聪目明的人们却很少充分利用他们宝贵的能力。他们的眼睛在看，耳朵在听，但看到的只是模糊的景象，听到的只是模糊的声音，因为他们没有全心地、充满感激地去看去听。人只有在失去过才会懂得感激，就像我们在没有生病时很少意识到自己的健康那样，当然，这并不是什么新鲜事。

9月1日：翻译笔记：

mellow：adj. （成熟后）香醇的。成熟的，老练的。

buoyant：adj.有浮力的，活泼的，快乐的。

vista：n.远景，展望，回顾。

petty：adj.小的，不重要的，细微的。

listless：倦怠的，冷漠的，无精打采的。

lethargy：（因呆滞或昏沉导致的）无生气。

manifold：adj.多种形式的，多种多样的。

impairment：损害，损伤。

hazily：模糊的。

手记：发现文学性很强的东西真难翻，第一次练笔似乎不应该选这种文章。但译都译了，只好硬着头皮做到底了。英语中的转折用法有时似乎和汉语不太一样，在英文中是转折的地方按汉语的习惯应该是承接关系，句中出现"but"的地方不能一概译为“但是”。例如：“In stories the doomed hero is usually saved at the last minute by some stroke of fortune, but almost always his sense of values is changed.” （“在故事中，原本注定死去的英雄常在最后一刻撞上好运，于是他得救了，而且从此他的价值观得以改变。”）。如果把译文中的“而且”改成“但是”，读起来就不太顺畅了。

I have often thought it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life. Darkness would make him more appreciative of sight; silence would teach him the joys of sound. 我想，如果每个人在刚成年时都会失明失聪一段时间，这该是一件好事。黑暗能唤起人们对眼前的光明的感激，寂静能告诉人们耳边的声响的欢愉。

Now and then I have tested my seeing friends to discover what they see. Recently I was visited by a very good friends who had　just returned from a long walk in the woods, and I asked her what she had observed.. "Nothing in particular, " she replied. I might have been incredulous had I not been accustomed to such reposes, for long ago I became convinced that the seeing see little. 时不时地，我会问我的有着健全双眼的朋友们，问他们看到了什么。最近，我的一个好友来访。她刚在树林里走了一大段路过来，于是我问她在树林里都看到了些什么。“没看到什么特别的东西，”她这样回答。如果不是因常听到这样的答案，我可能不敢相信她的回答。但很长一段时间以来，事实使我逐渐相信，明眼人确实没看到多少东西。

How was it possible, I asked myself, to walk for an hour through the woods and see nothing worthy of note? I who cannot see find hundreds of things to interest me through mere touch. I feel the delicate symmetry of a leaf. I pass my hands lovingly about the smooth skin of a silver birch, or the rough, shaggy bark of a pine. In the spring I touch the branches of trees hopefully in search of a bud the first sign of awakening Nature after her winter's sleep. I feel the delightful, velvety texture of a flower, and discover its remarkable convolutions; and something of the miracle of Nature is revealed to me. Occasionally, if I am very fortunate, I place my hand gently on a small tree and feel the happy quiver of a bird in full song. I am delighted to have the cool waters of a brook rush thought my open finger. To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug. incredulous adj. 怀疑的，不轻信的。 symmetry n.匀称，对称。 birch n.桦树。 silver birch n.白桦树 shaggy adj. 毛发粗浓杂乱的，未经修整而粗糙的。 velvety adj. 天鹅绒般的 convolution n. 盘旋，回旋。 quiver n.震颤，颤动。 lush adj. 味美的，繁荣的。 spongy adj. 像海绵的，柔软而有弹性的。 rug n. 小地毯，垫子。 Persian n.波斯 adj.波斯的。 pageant n.盛会，游行。但也可指状观，或边续的变化发展。

9月3日：（《假如给我三天光明》part4）

At times my heart cries out with longing to see all these things. If I can get so much pleasure from mere touch, how much more beauty must be revealed by sight. Yet, those who have eyes apparently see little. the panorama of color and action which fills the world is taken for granted. It is human, perhaps, to appreciate little that which we have and to long for that which we have not, but it is a great pity that in the world of light the gift of sight is used only as a mere conveniences rather than as a means of adding fullness to life. 我时常在心里呼喊，我渴望看到这一切。我仅仅通过触摸就得到了这么多欢愉，要是能看见，该有多少美丽的事物在我眼中显现啊！可是，明眼的人们似乎很少看到什么，他们把眼前的充满色彩和运动的景象视作理所当然。也许，人就是这样，对已有的东西不知珍惜，对没有的东西却充满渴求。在这个光明的世界上，上帝把双眼作为礼物赐给人类，但人们仅仅靠它使生活更方便，很少用它充实自己的生活，这确是件遗憾的事。

If I were the president of a university I should establish a compulsory course in "How to Use Your Eyes". The professor would try to show his pupils how they could add joy to their lives by really seeing what passes unnoticed before them. He would try to awake their dormant and sluggish faculties. 如果我是大学校长，我会开设一门必修课“如何使用你的眼睛”。在这门课上，教授会教学生怎样在常常从他们眼前溜走的一切中发现欢愉，这也许能唤醒他们长期沉睡而变得迟钝的感官。

Perhaps I can best illustrate by imagining what I should most like to see if I were given the use of my eyes, say, for just three days. And while I am imagining, suppose you, too, set your mind to work on the problem of how you would use your own eyes if you had only three more days to see. If with the on-coming darkness of the third night you knew that the sun would never rise for you again, how would you spend those three precious intervening days? What would you most want to let your gaze rest upon? 我将通过想象阐述，如果我拥有哪怕仅仅三天的光明，我会去看些什么，这也许是表述我的思想最好的方式。在我想象的时候，你可以假想自己也处于同样的情境中，假如你也只拥有三天光明，你会去看些什么呢？如果你知道，在第三天的夜晚过后，太阳将不再在你眼中升起，你会怎样度过这宝贵的三天？你最想将自己的目光停留在什么之上？

这篇文章很多人译过了，网上应该有不少译文，但我没有去找。我想自己译一译，全部译完后再看别人译的。这样也好真正锻炼一下自己。
